Anthony BaoLearning Style: I attend lectures! To study, I type all my notes/slides into Google Docs so that it is specifically just text with important diagrams. I memorize things the best when they are plain text because I have no other distractions from the PowerPoints and I can organize my thoughts more easily. On exam days, you'll often see me reviewing physical flashcards right before the exam. I write everything I deem important onto those flash cards, so it helps me with my short term memory right before the exam. I make mnemonics and simple diagrams that are easy to remember on these cards. Often, everything that was on the exam will be on just a few of my flashcards!
Hobbies: Kpop, everything technology related, playing Valorant Fun Fact: I won a Kpop Jeopardy competition! |
Jade bautistaLearning Style: I'm more of a visual learner than an auditory one. To prep for exams, I start by re-watching lecture recordings to jot down important information that was not mentioned in the slides. Then I type out the lecture material in an organized, color-coded study guide so that all the information is in one place. After reviewing that a couple of times, I'll handwrite key concepts for memorization. I'll also utilize any practice problems given by the professors to test my knowledge. When I feel comfortable with the material, I like studying in groups so that we can discuss the information and quiz each other!
Hobbies: I enjoy painting, traveling, playing basketball and tennis, making resin trays and going to music concerts. Fun Fact: I listen to SoundCloud mixes when I study. |
alice koLearning Style: I take notes on my ipad during lectures and refer to the lecture recordings only if I missed something important or if I need to review a certain slide. Then I handwrite notes on a piece of paper using my own words, so that the materials are organized in a format that I can understand better. I usually study alone, but I also find it helpful to study with friends and review concepts together.

olivia lapradeLearning Style: I like to review after class by typing my handwritten lecture notes and reorganizing them into tables, almost like Cornell notes. Then I do an in-depth review in which I'll reread my notes and go through each concept, trying to find connections between them to see the bigger picture. For topics that require brute memorization, I like rewriting things, making acronyms, and making diagrams/flowcharts since sometimes it's easier to recall images and the placement of things on a page as opposed to just words.
Hobbies: Drawing, cooking, finding new music, spending time with friends. Fun Fact: My roommate and I have opened a coconut with only a butter knife and brute force. |

I also like to reteach topics to some of my friends so that I can strengthen my knowledge about the subject.
Hobbies: Eating spicy foods, watching kdramas, walking my dogs, online shopping Fun Fact: I only know how to reverse park my car :( |
Stephen nguyenLearning Style: I learn by going to lectures and just listening to the professors talk. If I do not understand anything during the lecture then I would make a note of it later to figure it out. If I can understand the concept, then all I need to do is worry about the time needed to memorize it. It helps to study in groups and quiz each other. If you can teach something to someone else, only then do you truly understand it.
Hobbies: Badminton, League of Legends, Rock Climbing, Gym, Piano. Fun Fact: I can bark. |
dillon phamLearning Style: My learning style consists of going to class to familiarize myself with the information first while also taking notes. Hobbies: I enjoy watching anime, baking, spending time with friends, and spontaneous trips. Fun Fact: I am easily scared, so please don't scare me :( |
Scott ThompsonLearning Style: I study alone and gradually everyday which consists of reviewing my notes, rewatching parts of the lecture recordings, and going to professors’ office hours. I make sure to take breaks in between studying to allow myself to process the information and not overexert myself. I take the time to focus on understanding the concepts rather than through brute memorization. I find that this helps to better learn the material and connect ideas in a way that is logical and cohesive. Once I have gotten a solid grasp of the material, I work with others by teaching back the material and answering questions. This helps to solidify my learning while also applying my knowledge.

Joey nguyenLearning Style: What I use to excel in the classes here at UOP is active recall such as the flashcard application called Anki. I make sure that I take notes normally in class first and actively listen to the professor speak. I try to not write every single note down because understanding the material is more important than cramming information in. I utilize Zoom only when I don't completely understand the material. As for Anki, I create flashcards for every midterm and every class, and aim to create them right after lecture ends so that the information is still fresh. When it comes to studying, I prefer to study a good 2-3 hours versus a long period of time.
Hobbies: Some of my favorite hobbies include hiking, bowling, photography, binge K-Dramas, and most recently, gardening. Fun Fact: I am allergic to cats and dogs, but I will always go out of my way to pet them. |
Heusny souLearning Style: I've found that creating study guides have been most helpful in my learning because it condenses all the lecture material onto 1-2 pages of notes. In that way, it becomes more manageable and far less overwhelming when tackling material that can go anywhere upwards of 100+ PowerPoint slides!
Hobbies: I like to try out new recipes, explore hiking trails, and visit different concerts/music festivals. Fun Fact: I was once a hand model. |
vivian truongLearning Style: I'd like to think of myself as a visual learner that also likes problem solving. I prefer to spread out my studying but I do fall guilty to procrastination, which I'm not proud of. I do recommend studying one week before the exam. I have two main go-to techniques for studying: practice questions for active recall and the Feynman technique. Talking out the lecture slides like I am teaching it to someone else really helps me understand and fills in any gaps I have.
Hobbies: Playing League of Legends, Valorant, and other games that I stream on Twitch. Fun Fact: I cosplayed as dark magician girl for 150 followers on my twitch stream :) |
kailyn leeLearning Style: To understand the material is necessary, but to be able to recall the information out of context and know the results if this information were to be altered is another imperative trait that is easily forgotten. I re-watch lectures to understand the material, memorize each slide, then use flashcards to review the slides out of order. By the end, I should be able to see the title of a slide/topic and regenerate all the relevant material on the information, and visa versa. If I feel as though I am running out of time, I focus on the material that I already went over, rather than loosely go over everything, because I'd rather be unsure of some questions and confident in others than have an unreliable, pliable grasp on all information. Oddly enough, I become more distracted in silence, so I listen to instrumental music when I study.
Hobbies: Music Transcription, Puzzles and Board Games, Crochet Fun Fact: It's been a while, but I use to play 8 instruments, and I still want to learn more |
chor xiongLearning Style: I like to print out my lecture notes and highlight important details. When time permits, I like to rewrite my lecture notes, preferably in my own words, with lots of colors. If possible, I like to make acronyms and stories to help me remember a list of items. I only relisten to lectures on concepts that I do not understand, otherwise it will take me too long to relisten to an entire lecture, therefore, class attendance is a must for me.

joy nashLearning Style: I like to study by going over the lectures multiple times, drawing out concept maps and charts, and coming up with funny acronyms/stories/associations to help me memorize the small details that are easy to forget. I also enjoy studying with friends and quizzing each other since I find that saying things out loud helps me remember them better. I prioritize attending every lecture because I find that I learn best from the professor, and I take notes on any extra information that is not on the slides.

Jarylynn De GuzmanLearning Style: When I attend lectures, I like to either type up notes onto a large Google Doc study guide that's separated by each course or annotate directly on the given PowerPoint slides using OneNote. When reviewing the material for the exam, I like to finalize my Study Guide and go back through the slides to fill in the gaps between what I heard during the lecture vs. what is actually written on the slides. Afterwards, I read through the material and actively engage by writing down memorization mnemonics or drawing flow charts on a separate physical notebook.

Then I attend lecture and annotate the slides and take notes. About a week before an exam I retype my lecture notes to make sure that I understand all the content covered. I then go back to memorize the small details. If practice problems are provided, I also make sure to do those before the exam to test my understanding.

Hobbies: Cooking and eating, traveling, hanging out with my dog. Fun Fact: I love roller coasters. |
Silvia ArakelyanLearning Style: I like to hand write my notes a couple days after going to the lectures. When it’s closer to exam time, I’ll usually rewatch the lectures and make quizlets out of what the professors make note of most in class.
